  Buruk

Local student Buruk, senior at Arvada High school, was recently awarded student of the month, with the highest scores ever received at Arvada High School.  This you man has worked diligently and studied hard to reach this high level of achievement.  What’s even more remarkable is that Buruk, along with his parents and four siblings live in the CHF transitional housing program.  He comes from a family of high-achievers who are working hard along the path of self-sufficiency.

Buruk’s father is very proud of him, and has encouraged all of his children.  Soon to graduate and continue schooling in the medical field, Buruk will no doubt continue to be an excellent student, as he desires to one day, help people and give back to the community.  Buruk’s two eldest siblings have graduated from college and are both strong workers as well; one is a lawyer and one is becoming a doctor!  His parents both work at the airport and have taught their children the value of knowledge and education.  However, life didn’t always look so bright for the family….

For many years, Buruk’s family struggled.  They moved here from Ethiopia, where work, food, and a good education were hard to come by.   They came to America as immigrants where there is hope for their future.  They desired to earn their way in a society where their children could thrive, have good lives, and become successful, contributing adults.  Buruk’s family is grateful that they were accepted into the CHF program; over the last three years, while at CHF, the children, one by one, have graduated and have gone on to worthy professions.  Buruk is next in line.  The family is very humble and gracious, constantly visiting the CHF staff and serving their neighbors and community.  They give back eagerly and are now great examples of what determination, diligence, and encouragement can do.  They have overcome many obstacles together and have recently graduated from the CHF program and purchased their own home!  We have every confidence that their family will continue to be great examples and diligent workers, all with bright futures ahead.
