Nancy had always dreamed of being a wife and a mother. She was doing just that when her husband decided that he would rather be with another woman. Nancy was left to fend for herself, with 2 little girls to take care of and was pregnant as well.
Nancy had family in Colorado; so she packed her bags and moved to Denver. When she arrived in the Denver area she found a job doing laundry in a big hotel. She asked her mom if she could stay with her for a short time. Her mom’s boyfriend did not like the noise her 2 small children made, so she was not able to stay with her. Her aunt and uncle were selling their home so it was not convenient for them to have her stay. Nancy ended up in a shelter; heartbroken that her husband left her and feeling very alone. No one wanted her. No one was there to help her, to love her, to care for her. She was receiving a small income but no one would help her.
Where are the supportive families when things get tough? Where are the helpful parents? Where are the families that are supposed to be there to share the happy moments and to give support during the sad times? What happened to the excited Grandparents that are happy to spend time with their grandchildren, cooking with them, taking walks, going fishing, showing them how to tie their shoe? Where are the husbands? The husband that embraces his wife at 9 months pregnant and tells her that she is beautiful and that everything will be alright?
What is Nancy to do without anyone to help her? What happens when she goes into labor? Who is going to watch her children? Who is going to share the excitement of a new baby or calm her worries? Who is going to help her when she gets home with a brand new baby and her 2 other little ones? What is she to do? Who will be there for the children when she has limited time and does not have the strength to carry on. . We at CHF are here to help her build her crib for the new baby. The staff sees how special Nancy and her children are.
This is not the end of Nancy’s story. For Nancy there is now a lot of support and help. Now Nancy has a bright future ahead and a better life to look forward to. She aspires to go to school and earn a degree so that one day she may be able to purchase her own home.
Unfortunately there are many “Nancy’s” that come to Colorado Homeless Families. Many stories of broken families without support. That is why we need your help as well.
