  Stephanie

Stephanie was living with an abusive husband.  He was not only abusive to her but with her children as well.  She felt as though she was trapped.  She had no money and had no place to go.  She moved into Colorado Homeless Families transitional housing program where she received counseling and case management and other support services.

Stephanie’s case manager spent many hours each week with her while she was going through her divorce and dealing with many other emotional issues.  The case manager helped Stephanie see what direction she wanted to go in life.  She began to see her gifts and developed confidence that she could attain her life dream of being a French teacher.  Counseling helped Stephanie through the divorce and helped her children work through the abuse.  As time went by Stephanie developed enough strength and courage to enroll in school and apply for grants and financial assistance.

While in school Stephanie received RANF, Medicaid and food stamps so that she could take care of her family.  CHF provided housing for Stephanie and her children and Section 8 provided assistance with Stephanie’s rent.Stephanie has graduated from school and now has a full time job as a French teacher.

With the assistance and support she has received Stephanie has redirected her life goals and her children have made tremendous progress in stabilizing their life values with healthy, safe boundaries and quality friendships.  They now are moving forward and are able to focus on a bright future.  Stephanie has had a stable job for 2 years now and is now qualified to purchase her own home.  She has confidence in herself and her ability as a woman, a mom and a teacher.  Instead of drowning in her emotions she has put them in perspective and is a stable, healthy woman.

Without all of the support and assistance Stephanie may have never left her abusive situation.  If she did she may still be working at a minimum wage job with a bleak future.  Stephanie is only one of the success stories at CHF.  It is with the many grants and support of Jefferson County and other organizations, that these and other stories are made possible.  Thank you so much for you help and support.
